Posting your music on youtube can make or break you; ask Justin Bieber.... or Sarah Black. That was a risk Cape Breton’s singer/ rapper Kay Boutilier was willing to take and I’m pretty sure she’s glad she did. She’s now signed to the same label as Lady Gaga! She also fresh from LA where she produced her first album. Thankfully, she seems to be taking the Justin Bieber route... success wise.
WARNING: She’s not your typical bluegrass folkish rockish type of singer from the traditional Nova Scotian school of musical talent. She’s from the new wave of independent Hip-Hoperish Urban style such as Classified and Ghettosocks. Whoa.. yeah that’s a lot of -ishs but you get what I mean. No fiddles for Kay!!
First heard her single “My Name is Kay” when it was posted on Hollywood gossip blog Perez Hilton (Click Here), had NO IDEA she was from Cape Breton. Perez even subscribed to her Youtube Channel! Love her reaction when she finds out she’s made it on to his website.
The girl got some hard core style too. Her new video for her first single is modern and edgy. Very Au Courant (sorry, I just really wanted to use that word). It’s very balls out which I love! I also love her Adidas polka dotted jacket.
It’s nice to see independent Nova Scotians put themselves out there and make things happen for themselves. She engages with her audience with her frequent post to her Youtube Channel and her tumblr websites. An audience that is expanding every day. So much, that even CBC took notice. If you missed her interview at the 6pm News last week, you can read parts of tit online on CBC’s website.Wanna check her out... You can catch her opening for the Canadian leg of Ke$ha tour! We wish Kay all the success in the world! I’m sure we’ll be following her career hopefully for a long time!.
